Everybody has their own main speaking style and it changes according to your speech topic. Out of all the speeches we heard in class today my favorite would have to be Charlie Chaplin’s because he had so much power and feeling in his speaking style. He had pauses which made his speech so much more meaningful. Also he changed the tone of his voice and that kept the audience interested. Overall my favorite speech had to be Charlie Chaplin’s because of his speaking style.
All of the speeches we listened to today have a strong and powerful content. Mostly because the subjects meant alot to the people and they were everyday issues that have touched everybody and everybody has their own opinion on. I was the most inspired by Charlie Chaplin’s speech because he had a worldwide speech and he had dramatic music.
If Lennie were to live without George he would have a much more difficult life because George takes care of Lennie. George was in possession of Lennie’s workcard without Lennie even knowing that he didn't have it himself. Not only that but, that Lennie wouldn’t be able to survive with George because Lennie would not be able to get a job or make money without that workcard. Another reason would be that George cooks and provides food for Lennie. Lennie would not be able to provide himself with food because he forgot to get the firewood to cook dinner, he was too busy looking for his mouse. Since Lennie is incapable of finding his own work and getting food he would not be capable of taking care of himself.
Candy is an older man who lost his arm in an accident. Candy is the handyman around the farm. Candy has an older dog who he takes care of, just like George takes care of Lennie. I feel for Candy because he is getting older and it is harder for him to do work on the farm.
I felt that the story was a very gloomy and depressing story that made me feel fortunate for my attitude and position towards/in life right now. I think that it would be awful to always feel as though you don’t have enough. Although Matilde is living a rather good life she is still greedy and ungrateful for what she has. I see where she was coming from when she wants a nice dress to wear to the ball because, she would be surrounded by some very wealthy and fortunate people who can afford a lot more than her and she wouldn’t want to stand out in a bad way. Where I feel that she pushed her limits is when her friend was open and generously letting her borrow some jewelry she demanded for more (a ‘diamond’ necklace). Also at the end of the story I think that it was selfish that she didn’t want to ‘ruin her reputation’ as the amazing girl at the party by telling the truth. After Matilde found out that the Necklace was fake she would have been disappointed in herself and regretting not telling her friend about losing the Necklace. It would be a very hard to realize that you have spent 10 years in poverty just to pay of a necklace that she didn’t need to.
Out of all the amazing, beautiful places in the world my favorite would have to be Lisbon, Portugal. First, every time my family and I go to visit we get to spend time with both sides of our family. It is especially meaningful to me because we don’t get to talk to them often. Also, the beautiful weather makes the beaches a major tourist attraction. Finally, the city is a very upbeat, historical, and full of energy. Overall, Lisbon is definitely my favorite place in the world.
